ABOUT EDIBLE SOIL
Welcome to the Edible Soil Commons!
Most days, we’re just very happy to be here rotating through immense wonder.
We will also try our best to be, at times, uncommon. In the main, we are an arts and science cooperative and, as such, we hold long and hard to the age-old principles of seeking beauty, truth, justice, and wisdom. Of course, we would add adventure and a good laugh into that sacred mix. When it comes to any ideas and practice of conservation on this speck of a spinning rock in a cosmic sea of black, we think it best to apply these principles.
While some of us like feathers, we aren’t birds, but, like our migratory siblings, we need to move around, both without and within. After all, even our own internal cells are changing daily in their cycle of life and death. Because of what should be our humble attitude on this miraculous planet with its astounding bounty of life, our mission puts nature at the center of things, a recognition that we humans can’t or won’t survive and thrive without that fundamental orientation, nor will many other vital inhabitants of the grand tree of life. From there, the expanding circles, so to speak, of our content will be, or try to be, as diverse as nature itself. Or just complex– like a single species within that intricate web. Therein, we would like to do much: provoke, restore, challenge, howl, inspire, console, satirize, sanctify, love, and, yes, encourage participation (especially on the part of younger artists/thinkers)
Why Edible Soil? Because, simply put, we– and, as the soil scientists tell us, countless other organisms– can’t exist, in the most basic and fullest sense, without healthy soil. Therefore, with the seeding of this Commons, in its fertile soil, we will put our hands in deep and help it grow organically through time.
Our future plans include many things. We will share, and hope you share, as the seasons turn. Stay tuned, stay healthy, and grow well!
Thank you for being here!
